Each January, the nation shares much of the same routine: resolving to get healthy and to lose weight. We sign up for training, buy supplements and diet books, and do whatever seems most effective for building muscle and losing fat. All this in an attempt to streamline, or hack, our way to health.
However, groundbreaking research, recently published in the Journal of Experimental Brain Research demonstrates the effectiveness of chiropractic care on the body. This research demonstrates that only one chiropractic adjustment may be all that’s needed to noticeably improve muscle strength and reduce fatigue.
The 2015 study shows that when a chiropractor adjusts the spine it changes the way the brain processes what is going on in our bodies. “We are able to better process that sensory information … and control the body in a better way,” says Dr. Heidi Haavik, chiropractor and Director of Research at the New Zealand College of Chiropractics Centre for Research.
This study was the first to indicate that the subjects of the tests were better able to utilize their muscles after their subluxations were adjusted. Study results also suggest that spinal adjustment can help prevent muscle fatigue.
This means for patients with atrophied muscle tone due to causes possibly ranging from stroke to orthopedic operations, chiropractic care could be helpful in recovering muscle strength — further evidence of chiropractic care’s capacity to address aspects of sensorimotor integration.
Athletes of all levels can benefit from chiropractic care
The combination of increased strength and reduced fatigue benefits anyone engaging in activity and exercise. Every elite athlete or weekend warrior relies on the energy, agility, strength and coordination of their muscle systems. Chiropractic adjustments support the central nervous system, which directs each of these activities. It’s then no surprise that regular chiropractic adjustments can assist athletes of all levels in improving their performance.
Chiropractic care benefits the entire family
In addition to athletes, incorporating chiropractic care can provide benefits for the entire family. Through increased muscle responsiveness along with a decrease in muscle fatigue, chiropractic adjustments can help support any ‘body’.
While workouts and fads come and go, real wellness comes from scientific and time-tested methods of supporting your body. Science has spoken and chiropractic medicine works.
